Installation
Install WP to S3 from a release zip or from source.
This page covers installing the plugin on a single-site WordPress install. Multisite is not supported.
Option A — Release zip (recommended for production)
Release zips include Composer dependencies under vendor/. No Composer on the host.
- Download
wp-to-s3-x.y.z.zipfrom GitHub Releases (or WordPress.org when listed). - In wp-admin go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the zip and click Install Now, then Activate.
- Confirm Media → WP to S3 appears in the admin menu (Administrators by default).
Shared hosting tips
- PHP upload limits must allow the zip size (often ~6 MB). Raise
upload_max_filesizeandpost_max_sizeif the installer rejects the package. - If upload fails, unzip on your computer and upload the
wp-to-s3/folder via SFTP towp-content/plugins/wp-to-s3/, then activate under Plugins.
Option B — From source (development)
cd wp-content/plugins
git clone https://github.com/cxdy/wp-to-s3.git wp-to-s3
cd wp-to-s3
composer install --no-dev --optimize-autoloader
wp plugin activate wp-to-s3
You must run composer install --no-dev so vendor/autoload.php exists. Without it the plugin cannot load the AWS SDK.
After install
Continue with:
- Usage — open Media → WP to S3, run Test, save, enable.
- Or jump to a full guide:
Verify the plugin is loaded
wp plugin list --name=wp-to-s3
wp s3 doctor
wp s3 doctor should show sdk: yes when vendor/ is present. Connection may still fail until you configure bucket and keys.
